Gilbert High School is thrilled to announce the hiring of Andre LaFleur as the new Head Boys Basketball Coach of the Gilbert Tigers. A highly respected coach with a proven tracked record of success, LaFleur brings a wealth of experience from both his playing and coaching career.
As a player, LaFleur was a standout point guard at Northeastern University, where he helped lead the Huskies to multiple NCAA Tournament appearances. LaFluer set the NCAA all-time record for career assists while at Northeastern. His leadership and playmaking ability earned him recognition as one of the program’s all-time greats. Following his collegiate career, LaFleur was drafted into the NCA by the Houston Rockets. He later went on to have a successful professional career in the Australian National Basketball League (NBL), where he became a key contributor and play maker for several teams. His impact overseas solidified his reputation as a skilled floor general with a high basketball IQ.
Following his playing career, LaFleur transitioned into coaching and quickly made a name for himself at the collegiate level. He spent over a decade as an assistant coach at the University of Connecticut (UConn), where he played a pivotal role in recruiting and developing top-tier talent. During his tenure, UConn won two NCAA National Championships (2004, 2011) and consistently tanked among the nation’s elite programs. He was instrumental in the development of Kemba Walker, who led UConn to the 2011 title and went on to become a NBA All-Star, as well as Hasheem Thabeet, a dominant defensive force who was selected No. 2 overall in the 2009 NBA Draft.
LaFleur then joined Providence College, where he continued to showcase his coaching expertise by helping the Friars build a competitive program in the Big East conference. While at Providence, he played a key role in the growth of Kris Dunn, a two-time Big East Player of the Year and eventual NBA first-round draft pick. His ability to mentor guards and implement dynamic offensive strategies made a lasting impact.
Most recently, LaFleur served as an assistant coach at UNLV, contributing to the program’s resurgence and helping recruit high-level talent to the Rebels.
With his deep coaching experience, player development expertise, and championship pedigree, Coach LaFleur is the perfect leader to guide out basketball program into an exciting new era.
